![]() Such are the elegance of style and the fruit-filled aromas of Pinot Noir, that it can become an obsession with wine lovers and makers alike. It isn’t easy to make as many aspirant Pinot producers and unwitting buyers have learnt to their cost! We go to great ends to identify the people who know what they are doing in both the vineyard and the cellar. Bourgogne Rouge can be found from all parts and often from the very top addresses. Great sources in the Côte Chalonnaise are Jacqueson for Rully and Mouton for Givry. The Côte de Beaune also has a wide range of less expensive wines. Wines from villages such as Santenay, Saint-Aubin, Saint-Romain, Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chorey-lès-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses can provide tremendous value for money. Good addresses here are Prudhon, Gras, Michel Prunier, Borgeot, Rollin, Tollot-Beaut, Chandon de Briailles and Girardin. Wines are more voluptuous and prices higher in Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. Here Henri Germain, Chanson and de Montille are good references. The wines of the Côte de Nuits tend to have more blackcherry, darker fruit. The villages are: Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-St-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, Fixin and Marsannay. The wines of Henri Gouges, Nicolas Potel, Michel Gros, Méo-Camuzet, Roumier, Barthod, Boillot, Armand Rousseau, Dugat-Py, Bouvier, Mortet, Drouhin-Laroze and Clair are all superlative and are often only made in minuscule quantities.
