You would be wise to buy these wines! Very,
very good red and white wines feature in both the southern and
northern Rhône, reaching their pinnacle of
ripeness and
intensity around Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here the wines are
generally ‘big’ and so well balanced - they will keep
and drink
brilliantly. Daniel Brunier of Domaine
du Vieux Télégraphe says, “2007 has all the signs of a great
vintage - freshness and structure at the same time”.
Everywhere in the South we found
excellent, fine structured
wines, akin to 2006 but half a ahead.
In the North the growing season was more complicated, but again
there are
lovely, classy wines. Growers worked
hard and kept yields down, producing
wonderfully resonant
Syrahs with
depth, purity and
great length.
You will notice some
sensational whites, the
season’s long growing period produced very rich, ripe
Condrieu and Hermitage. The wines of the Rhône represent
wonderful value for money and 2007 is a
terrific vintage.
