Producer Profile...
Marvellously situated property on the slopes just outside the town of St-Emilion next to Ausone, with vineyards on the limestone slopes and plateau, and fantastic cellars that run back underneath the town. For a while under the same ownership as Ausone, the estate passed on the death of Madame Dubois-Challon to the long-term manager Pascal Delbeck who was faced with an estate in desperate need of modernisation and crippling death duties. Initially the famous Libourne négociants JP Moueix took a 30% stake but purchased the property outright in 2008. Instant changes were made in the vineyard and harvesting regime with plans to upgrade the cellar. The name has been changed to Bélair-Monange, in honour of the wife of Jean Moueix who moved the family to Bordeaux, purchasing Château Fonroque in 1931. Given the situation and potential of this property this is very much one to watch.
