The name means 'Hermann's cave' and there is indeed an old mine in the vineyard showing its mineral-laden heritage. Dönnhoff manages to bring this terroir to the bottle together with good richness and perfect balance.

The Dönnhoff vineyards are superbly situated and based on the pretty village of Oberhausen. Helmut Dönnhoff is a very talented winemaker whose wines are in great demand and often only available on allocation. The Nahe growers have suffered, but Helmut Dönnhoff is clearly bucking the trend.
