In the Press - thewinegang.com June 2011
A deep crimson colour, smoky aromas and damson fruit balanced by soft tannins make this a distinctly fine wine. These Aglianico grapes are grown at around 1,500 feet in the area around the inactive volcano of Monte Vulture.
Press Comments
"Deep-coloured, suave, pebble-smooth Aglianico with ripe blackberry-and-apple-pie fruit, touches of graphite, liquorice and toasty, chocolatey oak, and the softest of velvety tannins. Faultless modern winemaking, but lacking a little local personality." (87) www.thewinegang.com - June 2011 ![]() Style: Full-bodied

You will very rarely see so much high tech winemaking equipment packed into a small space as at Alovini. Oronzo Alò, owner of Alovini, loves his ‘toys’ - gleaming stainless steel tanks, the latest pumps and filters, state-of-the-art bottling equipment - but only has three garages to store it in. He set up on his own in 2003, putting into practice for himself, all the knowledge gained from many years revolutionising winemaking as director at two co-ops in the area near Monte Vulture. Oronzo Alò is a charismatic, accomplished man whose wines epitomise the best in modern style of the Greco and Aglianico grapes, and he freely admits that he learnt much from flying winemaker Jacques Lurton, who made several vintages in Oronzo’s co-ops.
