In the Press: GQ Magazine Online - Feb 2010
After years of research and development, Johnny Graham now has Churchill Estates producing excellent table wines. His Douro red has a complex nose, blackberry fruits and a floral hint, the eight months in oak giving rounded tannins.
Press Comments
"Churchill's Estate is the creation of Johnny Graham (of the famous Port house Graham's). The blend makes the wine almost opaque in colour, with an intense aroma of fresh cherries and bramble fruits. It's a medium to full-bodied vinho with a backbone of tannin and balanced acidity on the finish. The experience of the proprietor shows in this wine. It drinks beautifully now, but would benefit from a few years more in the bottle." Jem Cowan, GQ Magazine Online - 8th February 2010 ![]() Style: Medium-bodied
Drinking Time: Drink or keep
Grape Varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca

Johnny Graham left Cockburn’s as a director in 1980 to set up the first independent Port house in seventy years in Oporto. The old Graham’s ‘family’ business and its name had been sold to the Symingtons in 1970 so he chose instead to adopt his wife’s maiden name of Churchill. With the purchase of Quinta da Gricha and Quinta do Rio, both renowned Grade A vineyards in the premium Cima Corgo region of the Douro, Churchill’s is now in control from grape to bottle. As well as producing very fine, well-structured Ports, Johnny has been at the forefront of Douro Red wine production.
