In the Press: Decanter - Dec 2010
A full-flavoured, rich, off dry white Port, with a nutty nose and aromas of raisins and dried flowers. The palate is soft, nutty and spicy with creamy, luscious fruit and a long finish. A fine apéritif and great with starters.
Press Comments
"The first duty of Port is to be red', said Ernest Cockburn and I agree - except when it has been given extended age in wood like this wine. The pale amber colour gives it away, together with the delicate, off dry, toasted almond character. Delicious served chilled and, in caseyou were wondering, 'the second duty of Port is to be drunk." ![]() ![]() ![]() Producer Profile...
Johnny Graham left Cockburn’s as a director in 1980 to set up the first independent Port house in seventy years in Oporto. The old Graham’s ‘family’ business and its name had been sold to the Symingtons in 1970 so he chose instead to adopt his wife’s maiden name of Churchill. With the purchase of Quinta da Gricha and Quinta do Rio, both renowned Grade A vineyards in the premium Cima Corgo region of the Douro, Churchill’s is now in control from grape to bottle. As well as producing very fine, well-structured Ports, Johnny has been at the forefront of Douro Red wine production.
