Distinctive wine, very full and powerful with complex and varied spicy fruit flavours and quite a lot of new oak. An excellent example of big, rich, Rhône whites.

The old and venerable family firm of Jaboulet was founded by Antoine in 1834. It had passed down the male line until being sold in 2006 to Compagnie Financier Frey, who also own Château La Lagune in Bordeaux, as well as a large stake in Champagne Billecart Salmon. Caroline Frey, who is an accomplished winemaker, improving things greatly at La Lagune, will consult at Jaboulet, with the winemaker coming from the house of Ogier in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They produce a range of 22 Rhône wines sourced from their own 80 hectares of vinyards in the Northern Rhône and from 150 local growers who provide both grapes and wine.
