Chave is one of the most famous names in the Northern Rhone, producing legendary Hermitage. Sélection J-L Chave is the négociant side of the business, led by Jean Louis Chave. As a négociant he works out of a separate building to the domaine wines and uses barrels from the domaine, for example. Being old established in the region, Jean Louis knows the source of many good wines and buys small quantities from good growers to make wines that reflect their terroirs. His Saint Joseph is an attempt to make a typical Saint Joseph from the traditional heart of the appellation and the red and white Hermitage aim to do the same.
