From a small but famous 1er cru, with only 10 or so proprietors, this has a smoky nose and a lovely intense palate with a fresh core of fruit. It is velvety with a long, powerful, mineral finish.

David Moret is one of a new breed of very specialised, small négociants who concentrate on making the very best wines from bought-in grapes. Such activity depends on contacts, and David Moret has many at the top domaines who, for one reason or another, are able to part with some of their special grapes. Hitherto the wines were made at the Hameau de Barberon, a well-known sporting lodge in the woods above Savigny which belongs to his father-in-law, but he has recently leased cellars in Beaune. The wines are in a modern style: they are very clean, very pure and very concentrated. David maintains that wines "are a reflection of the people who make them".
