A well-judged touch of oak on the nose adds perfume to lots of really appealling ripe fruit. The mouthfeel is silky and the flavours complex with juicy peach and peppery spice leading to a fine, mineral finish.

Robert Niero is a relative newcomer to winemaking, working in a Lyonnais bank until the mid 1980's when his father in law, Jean Pinchon, died and Robert took over the estate. Since that time he has enlarged the vineyard holdings to 5 hectares, notably in the commune of Condrieu in the Côteau de Chéry and in Côte Rôtie where Pinchon had already established a reputation for his Condrieu classic. The vines are planted on broken down granite on steep south-south-east facing slopes. These soils are heat retaining, warming up early in the morning and cooling down late in the evening. Each site is vinified separately, using traditional techniques with a mix of barrel and vats. He produces top class wines that are noted for their depth of fruit and fine structure.
