Winemaker Terry Adams left a career in medicine in 1977 to follow a passion for wine and winemaking. All that passion is demonstrated in this fine Burgundian style Chardonnay which has deep minerality and excellent balance.

Founded in 1973 Sonoma-Cutrer owned a selection of key vineyards along the Sonoma Coast. Initially planted with several varieties by the end of the 70’s, the Chardonnay had been shown to excel so the decision was taken to just concentrate on this single variety. They describe themselves as America’s Grand Cru, aiming to forge "Burgundian Grand Cru" wines in California, and naturally they only use French oak. The vineyards have sparse soils and low levels of water and minerals force the vines to search deep underground to find them. The Cutrer vineyard is planted on volcanic ash and alluvial soils and is cooled by the rolling fog that envelops the Russian River Valley. Hand harvesting into small shallow bins keeps the grapes in top condition. There is a culture of innovation here.
