Delicato was founded in 1924 by Gaspare Indelicato, a Sicilian immigrant from a family of wine grape growers. Despite the challenges of Prohibition and the Great Depression, his fledgling grape-growing business survived its first decade and in 1935, with the country officially drinking again, Gaspare decided to try making wine from his grapes. This first vintage amounted to just 3,541 gallons of wine but it was well-received. Seventy years later, the company is producing one million cases of wine from 10,000 acres of vineyard and is still run by many family members. Their diverse vineyards sites spread from coastal Monterey to the foothills east of Lodi.
