A slick Sauvignon opening with an enticing grassy nose. Sherberty fruit follows on the palate along with flavours of juicy gooseberry and elderflower. A very elegant and delicious Sauvignon from one of the coolest areas in South Africa.

Here in Elgin, the Cluver family has a massive apple growing concern and the harvest was in full swing when we were there. Paul Cluver senior, a Cape Town neuro-surgeon, with Paul Cluver junior and his three sisters have increasingly diversified into wine and have been highly successful with more aromatic, cooler climate varieties. They tasted as good back in Shrewsbury as they did in the zen-like outdoor tasting area at the winery! The estate is within the Kogelberg biosphere, a world heritage site, and also has an outdoor amphitheatre which stages events in the setting of a eucalyptus grove.
