An extremely elegant Savennières. The variety of sub-soils here produces a wine with notes of smoked roast almonds, honey, apricots and white flowers. The epitome of dry Chenin, it has a rich, minerally palate.

Domaine du Closel comprises some 15 hectares of prime vineyard on the hillside behind the village of Savennières. The history of these south and south-west facing slopes can be traced back to the 15th Century when the existence of 'a house, an orchard, vines and a vegetable garden' was first documented. The estate is largely unchanged and incorporates areas of vineyard such as Clos du Papillon, where complex soil structures produce premium Chenin grapes. Today the estate is run by Michèle and Evelyn de Jessey-Pontbriant and is in conversion to organic methods of viticulture.
