In the Press: Daily Mail - Nov 2011
With a fragrant, grapey, Muscat nose this is a very sweet but refreshing wine which is as good with the Christmas pudding as it is sipped ice cold in the summer. Dried apricots, figs, dates and glacé fruits all make a showing!
Press Comments
"This unusual sherry has a delicious tang of dried fruit, is sweet enough to go with sugary things, but fresh and fragrant as well and therefore brilliant with lemony bites. Could also be served at room-temperature with hot puddings, or ice-cold with summer fruits and tarts." Amy De Vine, Daily Mail - November 2011 "Moscatel is the least known of sherries and not easily available in the UK, but, made from the muscat grape, it's a grapily scented, sweet wine, very good to serve cold with orange polenta cake and fruit tarts." Delgado Zuleta is the oldest family winery currently producing Manzanilla, Jerez and still white wine (Tierra de Cádiz) in the area around Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a small coastal town at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River in Southern Spain. The vineyards have been in the family for two hundred and fifty years since the company was founded by Francisco Gil de Ledesma, Knight of the Order of Calatrava and Sanlúcar’s honorary mayor. The company’s name, however, pays homage to a later relative, Jose Maria Delgado Zuleta, who took control after marrying a direct descendant of the original founder. Planted on Albariza soils, Delgado’s vineyards lie in the Jerez Superior area of the appellation. The company’s many small cellars are uniquely located at different levels on the hillside in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This variation in altitude and humidity affects the rate of growth of flor in the barrels and consequently adds considerable complexity to the final bottling.
