French brandy can come in many forms, with more found in other European countries such as Spain and Greece. The best known however are Armagnac and Cognac. Armagnac comes from smaller, local producers and is less branded.
We follow Château du Tariquet from Grassa et Fils in Three Star, VSOP and Hors d’Age from Bas Armagnac, with vintage editions being available for special anniversaries and birthdays. Cognac is better known, with Hine, Hennessy, Rémy Martin and Delamain leading the pack. For great value however, choose Château Montifaud whose Petite Fine Champagne spirit is wonderously smooth, made with care and passion. Our XO selection is as good as any around, while a special bottle is Early Landed from Hine, matured in England rather than France. Finally, Beaupré’s Napoleon Brandy is excellent value.
