Douro
Probably the most exciting, emerging, quality region in the world of wine at the moment, the Douro Valley is capable of producing great, ageworthy wines on a par with Bordeaux, Barolo and the big Aussie wines of high repute. All the class of the Port grapes is, with judicious handling and skilled winemaking, transferred into fabulous bottles of dry red. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz are the leading grapes, but a bunch of lesser names bring complexity and individuality to the brew. These are dense, fruit packed, well-structured wines that are well worth a place in your cellar.
