Loire
The Loire is a tremendous region, offering great diversity and all styles of wine you could wish for: dry, medium, sweet, white, red, rosé, still or sparkling. A vinous journey up the Loire takes in the crisp Muscadet of the Nantais; the gorgeously sweet Chenins of Coteaux du Layon; the super complex dry Chenins of Savennières from around Angers, the lighter, more immediately appealing, whites of Saumur; and the rich reds of Anjou, on to the luscious Cabernet Franc-based reds of Chinon and Bourgueil. Continuing on the journey leads you to the famous whites of Vouvray, available in every imaginable style and finally on to the Touraine and Central Vineyards where Sauvignon Blanc reigns supreme with famous names such as Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé.
