Tuscany

The red wines of Tuscany, for which it is principally known, run from the humblest Chianti – brimming with bright cherry fruit – to the richer, denser wines of Brunello di Montalcino and the intensity of the Super Tuscans that rely on high quality Cabernet Sauvignon for their star appeal. Recently you will find wines labelled IGT Toscana, indicating that they are produced in Tuscany but contravene the strict rules on permitted grape varieties in certain areas. Enjoy them, as for many Italian winemakers the rules are there to be broken, the fruit and passion of their ideas being what they want to bottle!
