The market for Australian wine has experienced dramatic ups and downs since the first meaningful exports arrived on our shores some 35 years ago. From dominating the entry price range of every supermarket and off-licence in the country, adversely fluctuating exchange rates have forced prices up making it more difficult for the bulk producers to provide the variety of discounted offerings. Sales growth has now been entrusted to the vast majority of small, quality-driven producers to show that paying a little more delivers a more pleasurable drop. Highlighting the regionality and points of difference between the main production areas in such a vast country helps to explain this change of focus.
