This ancient property is situated in Reguengos de Monsaraz in the Alentejo region of Southern Portugal. It can trace its winemaking roots back to the Bronze Age. During the Roman occupation its wines were exported throughout the empire. The current boundaries of the property were established in 1267. In the heart of the property is the Tower of Esporão built between 1457 and 1490, though only recently restored. Today the wine making at this property is under the auspices of Australian born David Baverstock, which lends a more international style to the wines. The estate is proud of its biodiversity and already part of the property is being farmed organically.
A very good year, possibly even great!
Another drought year a little more difficult than 2009.
A drought year, so yields are small but concentrated wines resulted.
After a slow start to the year, summer was dry and cool, the resulting
wines are good.
Rich with a spanking long finish. The oak boosts richness thanks to a partial barrel ferment and there's a smokey touch coming through on the palate. It's big stuff with serious complexity that's built for pairing with nosh. Lemony richness balanced with full fat zing. Have it!

A complex, smooth and slightly smoky wine with opening flavours of ripe peach and other tropical fruits. However, those touches are slowly embellished with, first, green apple and then lemon-centred acidity. Barrel fermentation for a proportion of the wine provides richness, texture and, possibly, adds that attractive spicy finish.
