Situated not far from Mandùria on the Tarantino ‘heel’ of Italy, the San Marzano co-operative is within sight of the Ionian Sea. It is a large, highly modern affair, huge tanks sheltering beneath awnings from the beating rays of the Puglian sun. The wines are modern in style, particularly those made under the auspices of the successful Farnese group which has been involved here since 2003. They draw from 1,000 members with 500ha between them, enabling director, Mauro di Maggio, to pick out the best parcels, for example the 60 year old Primitivo vines which stand like old soldiers on crutches, to make San Marzano’s top wines. It is certainly a place which is moving on, responding admirably to the challenges thrown at it by competition from South America and South Africa.
A good hot year so yields are down, growers need to be careful to sort
raisin grapes and not to over extract.
Good in the South and good in Piedmont, elsewhere a little patchy.

has made some superb wines.
We give thanks to Flying Winemakers 'cos at the end of the day, had they not deigned to call by in Puglia about 20 years ago, then who knows, the locals might still be forgetting to clean the tanks and pipes between vintages or purchased the odd new stainless steel vat! This area in the heel of Italy is a hugely rich resource of good, ripe fruit and, as demonstrated by this dark and brooding Negroamaro, turned into the most juicy and enjoyable drop by the clever winemakers at the San Marzano co-operative. A brilliant sun-packed red for any occasion.

- Next Week Day Delivery by 12 noon is charged at a flat rate of £12. Orders for Next Day delivery must be received by 2pmon the preceding week day (excluding bank holidays) so that we have time to pack them.
- Saturday Delivery by 12 noon is charged at a flat rate of £20. Orders for Saturday Delivery must be received by 2pm on Friday (or by 2pm on Thursday before the Easter weekend).
- Tasting Ticket(s) will be despatched by First Class Royal Mail (free of charge) to your selected delivery address within 2 working days of placing your order.
We always do our very best to achieve our stated delivery times but please note we can not be responsible for circumstances beyond Tanners control including, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions and supplier & carrier difficulties.
Please note when sending gifts that addresses must be accurate, particularly for recipients at large organisations. Don’t forget to include a daytime phone number and 'Delivery Address Instructions' at checkout on where to leave the goods if the recipient is out i.e. 'If out leave with neighbour'. If you don’t leave an instruction, the driver will leave a card to which the recipient will have to respond and it will result in a delay to your delivery.

Please remember that if you select this option, the relevant delivery charges will be added per address. Our delivery charges are detailed below. (Please note you cannot pay by PayPal if you use the 'multiple address' checkout.)

Finally, if an item is out of stock, to ensure a timely delivery, we will substitute with a similar item of equal or higher value (at no additional cost), unless requested not to do so in your order’s delivery instructions.
Delivery to other areas - additional charges
- Deliveries to the Isle of Wight are £5 per case - Northern Ireland and Scilly Isles are £10 per case - The main Scottish Islands and Isle of Man are £15 per case.
You should allow up to 6 working days for delivery to these areas.
Please note: we do not export from the UK.
If you don’t like any wine that you buy from us, for whatever reason, return it within a month of purchase and we shall refund your money without question or delay.
Refunds for Tasting Tickets: If you need to arrange a refund at any time prior to us posting your ticket(s), please ring 01743 234455. Once we've posted the ticket(s), if you are unable to attend for any reason, please let us know as soon as you can and wherever possible, we will attempt to resell your ticket(s) on your behalf.
Please note that once we've despatched them, refunds can only be issued in the instance that we are able to resell your ticket(s).
