Producer: Domaine Michel Gros
It’s now quite some years since we were ‘interviewed’ by Madame Gros to see if we were suitable customers for her son Michel’s wines! Domaine Michel Gros is part of the grand old Gros estate which dates from 1830 in Vosne-Romanée.

One of the first to sell Vosne-Romanée wines in bottle, the Gros family’s 1858 vintage went for five francs per bottle! Through various family splits Michel has ended up with some excellent holdings in the village including the wholly owned monopole Clos des Réas, bought by forbear Alfonse Gros in 1860. Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge from the cassis-producing village of Arcenant is also a speciality. The estate now extends to 23 ha, 3.5 ha of which are on a long-term lease from a family that chose Michel to safeguard their vines. Michel is a wonderfully modest man making superb wines, which rank among the best in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Michel’s son Pierre, born in 1989, will join Michel at the domaine soon, having been a software engineer in Paris with Total. Some more good news is that between the branches of the family they have about 0.5 ha of Richebourg and Michel hopes to have access to some soon.
