Burgundy Explorer Case - Half Dozen
The breadth of our Burgundian range and the gamut of great growers we represent makes a Taster case tricky to put together, especially when often we get tiny allocations. This case shows what great value you get from the Mâconnais with Mâcon, Saint-Veran and Pouilly-Fuissé all showing how well Chardonnay works with varying amounts of oak influence from different growers, as well as our stalwart own-label White Burgundy made for us by the Mâcon Viré co-op. Luckily, we have plenty of stock of all these popular whites so that if you like them, you can buy some more!
Chardonnay, despite the dubious reputation secured by indifferent winemaking in big factory settings, is a wonderful, versatile grape with character and charm. Relatively easy to grow, it does make outstanding wines in Burgundy in particular, and these whites, from Chablis to our own label, should convince you that there’s much more to discover here.
Finally mention of the red, red Burgundy is often expensive - rightly so for the quality it achieves and the tiny quantities available. Our own-label Red Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir from the southern part of the region and mostly Côte de Beaune, is extremely good value for money and will likely turn you into a ‘burghound’ as you hunt down other Pinot Noirs to rival it from around the world. For many, both winemakers and wine drinkers, Pinot Noir is the Holy Grail of varieties.
