Planted by the South African Andrew Weeber, and part-owned by businessman Lord Ashcroft, Gusbourne makes a great blanc de blanc, creamy and mineral, and all the more startling for being planted on clay rather than chalk. Winemaker Charlie Holland also produces an excellent still chardonnay and a good pinot noir; most English reds are insipid at the best, but these still wines are Burgundian in style – and alas in price.
