The 2015 vintage was excellent across France, including Bordeaux, and its charm is in full effect in a superb-value claret with classic flavours of cedar and cassis, fine tannins and moreish acidity that will work beautifully with Boxing Day beef. This beguiling blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc is produced in the Entre-deux-Mers region. A high-performing, no-nonsense Bordeaux Supérieur, it’s well balanced, robust and packed with ripe, fruity flavour. A lot of wine for your money. Bright, ripe, contemporary Bordeaux with all the classic cassis and soft pencilly graphite flavours and a dry but gentle finish. 13.5%. 2015 was a superb vintage in Bordeaux and the vines were subjected to sunny conditions and this is evident in the depth of flavour in the mid-palate of this lovely wine. Decant it to allow the aromas to emerge and you will be in the presence of a wine tailor-made for roast beef and all of the trimmings. Entre Deux Mers estate admirably revitalised by the Sichel family. Even lesser châteaux made lovely wines in 2015. Their extensive list currently includes this gem from the Entre-deux-Mers in Bordeaux: Chateau Argadens 2015 robust, elegant, balanced merlot dominated blend which is simply excellent value for the price and great buy for a Christmas standby. In St-André du Bois south east of Bordeaux overlooking the Garonne, owned by the Sichel family since 2002. 63% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. Bright deep crimson. Quite intense nose and impressive ripeness. Round with lots of fruit and pleasure but with the dry (not drying) finish that is typical of Bordeaux. Evidence of some good quality old oak on sweet fruit. Proper wine with some future. GV. |
