Château Puygueraud, Francs - Côtes de Bordeaux 2012

There’s a big Merlot hit with this Claret which is ripe and succulent, then spicy and full in the mouth. Quite a modern, fruity style but it ages well and this has a hint of tobacco too. Delicious, and we like this Thienpont property more and more.

I like this back label telling us it's 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec. Correct and fresh. Not luscious! Quite crisp and direct. No suggestion of anything specious. No excess oak but a fair right-bank alternative to some rather tired St-Émilions at the same price or more. 16/20 This shows class for the vintage with smoke, meat, berry and currant character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Refined and polished. Better in 2017. 90 pts |
