Domaine Tollot Beaut

Domaine Tollot Beaut

Firmly established in Chorey-lès-Beaune on the Rue Alexandre Tollot (named after their great-grandfather, an erstwhile mayor) Tollot-Beaut has long been a trailblazer for Chorey wines. At almost 25 ha, it is a well sized domaine with all its vines in Chorey-lès-Beaune, Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Nathalie Tollot, who now runs the domaine with her cousin Jean-Paul, explains that the vineyards were all close enough by to be within easy reach of a horse and cart in the old days. Wines have been sold in bottle since 1921 and were exported to the US as far back as the 1930s, whilst Nathalie and Jean-Paul represent the sixth generation of the family at the estate. They now make two cuvées of Chorey-lès-Beaune from almost 10 ha of vines there, having to work the land hard, says Nathalie, due to the clay soils. The slow descent of the service lift is a ritual precursor to our tastings at the domaine, emerging into extensive dark cellars, venerable mould-encrusted bottles maturing gently in their bins. Eighty percent of the work is done in the vineyard, continues Nathalie, and the resulting wines are a credit to all the hard work of the new Tollot generation.
