Balanced, fresh, and classic in nature ‒ the release of 2021 Single Quintas and Vintage Ports has been highly anticipated.
THE WEATHER
Cool and challenging were the words coming out of the Douro to describe the weather conditions of this latest vintage. In sharp contrast to the extremes of heat and drought encountered in recent seasons, the winter rains of 2021 signalled a refreshing return to weather more typical of past cooler vintages. This rain replenished the parched soils and was followed by a mild and sunny summer, meaning overall growing conditions were very good.
The harvest took place over a two-week period between late August and early September and, despite the interruption of rain during the harvest, producers are delighted with the finished results. The return to more classical growing conditions has given the 2021 Ports a signature elegance, offering up beautiful aromatics and exuding a freshness which gives them a charm that is often difficult to achieve in hotter years.
THE OFFER
Despite the challenges faced, the cooler 2021 vintage has clearly produced Ports of the very highest quality.
This offer includes releases from leading houses Churchills, Quinta do Noval and Grahams: keep your eyes peeled for Churchills Quinta da Gricha – prized for its unique terroir and 70-year-old vines, and Quinta do Noval Nacional which is exclusively made from a small plot of ungrafted vines that are untouched by phylloxera, resulting in extremely concentrated juice that makes a wondrously intense and complex Port. Finally, the Symington Family Grahams Stone Terraces is the jewel in the crown of their renowned portfolio and not to be missed!
