Famille Hugel

Famille Hugel

The company of Famille Hugel has been based in the beautiful town of Riquewihr since 1639. In 1902 Frédéric Emile Hugel established new premises in the centre of the town, which is still the heart of the business today.

The current family members involved include Jean-Philippe, Marc and Etienne’s son Jean-Frédérique who is in charge. Hugel owns 25 hectares of vineyards half of which are on Grand Cru sites. In addition they buy grapes from growers on long-term contract farming a further 100 hectares. The average age of vines used is 30 years. Winemaking is a mix of old and new, with up to date temperature control running parallel with using the "oldest wine barrel in the world still in use", one of their barrels, called Ste Catherine, dates back to 1715 and is featured in the Guinness book of records.
