Favorita

Also called, confusingly ‘Roero’ in Piemonte, this grape is in fact Vermentino, possibly arriving in Piemonte from Liguria. Jancis Robinson et al (Wine Grapes, 2012) believes the name originates from being a ‘favourite’ eating grape in the 17th century. Aromatic and juicy, with a mineral edge for freshness, the wines are typically light and un-oaked for drinking young.
