Hatzidikis family winery is situated on the spectacular Aegean island of Santorini, famous for its boutique hotels which cling to the side of a massive submerged volcanic crater. Since 1997 Haridimos Hatzidikis, ex head oenologist of big-player Boutari, and his wife Konstantina have been instrumental in increasing the fame of Santorini’s wines.
The vines actually belong to Konstantina’s family and were re-planted having not been worked since the devastating earthquake of 1956 which forced her parents to move to Athens. The winery is in a natural cave. The wines are made organically as the Hatzidakises believe that: ‘fertilizer components of unnatural origins and pesticides contain serious substances that pass from the soil into the plants, then to their fruits and finally to humans with damaging consequences for their bodies.’
