Juvé y Camps
Juvé y Camps
Juvé y Camps dates back to 1796 when Joan Juvé Mir planted the first vines in the Alt Penedès, on the slopes of Montserrat which towers, magnificent and dramatically isolated, to the north of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia near Barcelona.
In 1921 his grandson, Joan Juvé Baqués married Teresa Camps Ferrer and put in place the foundations of this medium sized company (tiny compared to Freixenet and Cordoniu) that has a great reputation for its fine Cavas, which are regularly served by the Spanish Royal Family and government. In the 1990s they built a huge and impressive new winery in the vineyards at Espiells, while still keeping their historic cellars in Sant Sadurní which houses up to a million bottle. The company has almost 300 hectares in cultivation, still mostly in the Alt Penedès at Espiells but with more planted in Mediona, closer to the Mediterranean, and south of Sant Sadurní at La Cuscona. Juvé y Camps grows all three 'Cava grapes' - Parellada, Macabeu and Xarel.lo but ensuring they are in the best of the three locations to produce the purest, most distinctive fruit - a legacy of founder Joan Juvé Mir. They also grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and make a certain quantity of red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon as well. In 2016 the majority of their vineyards completed their conversion to full organic status.
