Mâcon-Vergisson, Les Rochers, Domaine Guerrin & Fils 2018
From one parcel of vines on top of the spectacular Vergisson escarpment comes this delightfully mineral, 'bready', Chablis-style Mâcon. It's a great fish or shellfish wine which can also develop for a couple of years in bottle.

While the Sauvignon de Touraine is the classic, no holds barred, crowd-pleasing, fridge-door white wine, Les Rochers is, in spite of its price, an altogether more serious proposition. A beautifully calm Chardonnay with little oak interference to worry the scorers, this elegant white Burgundy is disarmingly cheap for the level of class and restraint it shows on the palate. With enough oomph to step up to a main course fish dish and even the main event on the big day, I cannot recommend this sneakily inexpensive wine enough. Buy it before someone discovers that the decimal point is in the wrong place or the costings were done on a dozen and not a six-pack! |
