Marques de Murrieta, Tinto Reserva Rioja, Finca Ygay 2013
One of the great names in classic Spanish red Rioja, Marques de Murrieta uses a higher proportion of new oak than their rivals, and two years minimum ageing results in a powerful but mellow style of red wine. There is rich complexity to be found here with layers of plummy, spicy fruit from grapes harvested at peak ripeness, mingled with fine, slightly smoky tannins. The complexity comes through at the end. Try it with any rich red meat dishes, but roast lamb, roast beef or even roast venison are classic choices.
