Mas de la Seranne

Mas de la Seranne

A passion for wine inspired Isabelle and Jean-Pierre Venture to return to their native Languedoc and begin winemaking after twenty years away from the area.

They now cultivate Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc on 10 hectares of topographically varied vineyard in the Coteaux d’Aniane. The village of Aniane has recently become something of a wine-making hot spot: Gérard Dépardieu’s vineyard holdings have had an inflationary effect on land prices and Mondavi recently tried to buy land in the area (only to be thwarted by local resistance!)

Although the vineyard is not fully organic, the Ventures are committed to environmentally responsible methods of cultivation. La Mas de la Seranne is named after the chain of hills seen from the vineyard in the Coteaux d’Aniane. Immortelles refers to the helichrysum, a wild flower found in the vineyards which has a spicy scent very similar to that found in the wine.
