Producer: Domaine Buisson-Charles
Patrick Essa, husband and winemaker at Buisson-Charles in Meursault, doubles as a rugby and athletics coach in Gevrey-Chambertin by day. His wife Catherine Buisson is at the domaine too, as well as her father Michel and son Louis, this being a small family affair.

They have six hectares of vines and cellars at the end of an unassuming courtyard in Meursault. The family has been in Meursault for at least seven generations with Michel starting in 1958 and Catherine in 2002. Patrick has had sole charge of winemaking since 2009. The vineyards are worked organically but are not accredited, giving the option to save a vintage with conventional treatments in an exceptionally difficult year. The house style is for gentle ripeness with less of the lemony character of many modern Meursaults. This, to our minds, makes these wines more pleasant to drink young, yet, as various old bottles tasted there over the years have proved, Meursaults from Buisson-Charles can age remarkably well.
