All the buildings are seemingly owned by the Vitale family who use use them for winemaking as well as attractive letting rooms for ‘agriturismo’. The estate extends to 60 hectares and is run by Roberta Vitale, along with her sister Simona. Their father Pietro, an Umbrian businessman, bought the property in 1984 thereby undertaking a massive renovation project. Rocca di Fabbri’s wines are accomplished and are good standard bearers for the Umbrian wine industry. They specialise in Rosso di Montefalco and Sagrantino, a robust local grape which they dry for 15 to 20 days on ‘graticci’ racks to achieve maximum richness in the wine. It is arguably one of Italy’s greatest and most idiosyncratic reds.
