Moscatel de Setúbal Superior, Bacalhôa 2001
An unusual, complex wine which has flavours of chocolate and raisins and is smooth and sweet with a fresh, dry finish. It's a fruitier style than some Setúbals which all come from a peninsula just across the Tejo estuary from Lisbon.

Moscatel de Setúbal is made by adding brandy and leaving it to mingle with the sweet Moscatel juice for a good number of months, the result is an amber coloured liquid that is full of caramelised nut lusciousness, candied orange, spiced pear, ginger and plump sultanas, yet the acidity is in check too. A great alternative sticky and a style that is all too often overlooked.
