Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie, Les Gautronnières, Bonnet-Huteau 2020
Fantastic, vivacious Muscadet, full of zesty white fruit character, some minerality, plenty of weight from 6 months on lees (sur Lie) and organically produced.

A dry and zippy muscadet produced by a family-owned Loire estate that has converted to full-on biodynamics. No oak is used in the maturation, resulting in a whistle-clean wine full of vitality.
Will Lyons, The Sunday Times, 5th December 202
As it has fallen out of fashion, losing sales to appellations such as Picpoul de Pinet, Muscadet has become very good value. This is what I’d call a “proper wine” – carefully made by a family producer – that is certified organic and also biodynamic. The grapes come from a single vineyard planted on igneous rock. It’s notably rounded, fruitier than many Muscadets (think greengages) and yet still with the sense of calm, salinity and grey skies that this wine always embodies for me.
