I’ve been turning to Cloudy Bay’s sparkling wine since the late 1990s. This elegant example from Marlborough’s Wairau valley, produced by Tim Heath, is a clend of 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. The subtle bready flavour combines with apple and citrus.
The winemaker Tim Heath brings a touch of elegance to one of New Zealand’s top sparkling wines, Pelorus. The style has an emphasis on finesse, a dry apple character and a gloriously crisp, fresh finish. It punches well above its price point.
After a dip in form, this heralds a return to Pelorus as prime sparkling wine. Hurry and grab a bottle before they flog the lot!
