Just when you think summer is drawing to a close the weather throws a curveball! In fact the weather has firmly been saying "Summer's here...and enjoy it". With this in mind we have some superb wines for you from the list of recommendations this month from our friendly wine writers.

It's a great selection of whites, rosés, reds and of course some champagne for those occasions when nothing less will do.  I have loved so many from this months' recommends but have returned several times to the Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, Melis 2015 and Altano, Douro White 2015 to enjoy whilst soaking up some late evening sunshine.

Why not try several too and then leave a review on our website; we'd really love to hear what you think!

Château Tour de Mirambeau, Reserve Rosé, Bordeaux 2015

“A delicious strawberry scented rosé with great balance. A great match to barbequed chicken with some fresh tarragon herbs and sweet tomatoes cooked on the vine.”

Sharon Walters, The Shropshire Star, 3rd August 2016

Sancerre, Cuvée CM, Jean-Max Roger 2014

“Stunning stone fruit with elegant zestiness. Prime Sancerre for a fab price.”

Olly Smith, The Daily Mail, 6th August 2016

Altano, Quinta do Ataide Organic Douro Red, Symington 2014

“Portugal’s Douro Valley is a hard place to grow grapes organically because of the problems of controlling weeds on steep slopes. From the flatter, northerly end of the valley, this is a bold, dense wine. Brimming with structured blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, it’s delicious and full of flavour.”

Jamie Goode, The Sunday Express, 7th August 2016

Altano, Douro White 2015

“…comes from big port house Symington – it’s the family’s only white. Initially it sings out elderflower, followed by juicy tropical aromatics”

Liz Sagues, Ham & High Magazine, 12th August 2016

Lagar de Cervera Albariño, Rias Baixas 2014

“This is one of the most accurate and arresting Albariños of the year.  The scent of stone fruit and wild flowers, cut with citrus and green herbs is incredible.  One of the most delicious wines with fresh fish, this is the darling white of top Spanish restaurants.”

Matthew Jukes, The Daily Mail, 13th August 2016

Pol Roger Brut Réserve White Foil (Gift Box)

“Creamy bubbles and dazzling citrus, white flowers and stone fruit elegance – everyone’s favourite summer fizz.”

Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 13th August 2016

Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon, Puente Alto, Concha y Toro 2012

“A velvety, deep red wine of scrumptious opulence.”

Olly Smith, The Daily Mail, 14th August 2016

CVNE Blanco Barrel Fermented, Rioja 2014

“…soft warm tones from the time in oak barrique. The result has a bouquet of fleshy stonefruits and a mineral lift in the mouth in this versatile, yet elegant foodie white.”

Neil Cammies, Wales Online.co.uk, 17th August 2016

“It’s good to see that after nearly 150 years, Tanner in Shrewsbury remains a Shropshire gem under James Tanner.”

Colombard, IGP Côtes de Gascogne, Producteurs Plaimont 2015

Kumeu River Village Hand Harvested Chardonnay, Auckland 2014

“Nab the Plaimont Co-op’s glorious, pink grapefruit zest of a 2015 Colombard, IGP Côtes de Gascogne for just £5.99 or one of my favourite Kiwi chardonnays, the zingy, fresh pineapple-stashed 2014 Kumeu Village Hand-Harvested Chardonnay for a keen £9.95. ”

Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 20th August 2016

Tons de Duorum, Douro Red 2014

“Often the red wines from the Douro Valley can be a little too heavy and ‘porty’ for my liking, but this elegantly made wine is a refreshing change.  With only 13.5% alc. and showing tender blackberry, cassis and plum notes this is a great find and it is a superb with the Slow roast shoulder of lamb recipe.”

Matthew Jukes, The Daily Mail, 20th August 2016

Paparuda Pinot Noir, Estate Selection 2015

“Heading further east to Romania, the country’s largest wine producer Cramele Recas, is at the top of its pinot noir game, offering quality and easy drinking appeal at a popular price point. Delicate floral aromatics lead to delicious strawberry and raspberry fruits with pretty spice, a smooth mouthfeel and hint of tannin. Impressive for the price, especially if you’re serving young grouse to a party of four.”

Sam Wylie Harris, The Courier, 20th August 2016

Picpoul de Pinet, Domaine des Lauriers, Coteaux du Languedoc 2015

“This lively and intense wine has pithy, zesty grapefruit and lemon notes as well as some pear richness. An added bite nicely combines freshness with some richer, fruity notes.”

Jamie Goode, The Sunday Express, 21st August 2016

Mitchell Watervale Riesling, Clare Valley 2014

“Very exotic and expressive with pretty mandarin and that edge of bitter/green edge of hops to the nose.  These notes follow through on a complex, lively palate with lime, camomile, a touch of earth and spicy clove.  The palate is a little softer than the ’15, but very persistent with a long, slow burn finish.  Very good.”

Sarah Ahmed, The Wine Detective, 22nd August 2016

Chinon, Cuvée Terroir, Charles Joguet 2011

“Joguet is one of the famous names of the Chinon region and this bottle is nicely dense and fresh with a green herb edge to the bright raspberry and cherry fruit. It also has an attractive savoury twist.”

Jamie Goode, The Sunday Express, 28th August 2016

Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, Melis 2015

“There’s an extra level of peachy fleshiness to go with the basil and citrussy zip in Melis Vermentino di Sardegna 2015.”

David Williams, The Guardian, 28th August 2016
