With brooding aromas of dark berry, blackcurrant, graphite and herbs, this has echoes of a left bank claret. As more blackberry and garrigue notes come through on the palate, you get additional hints of black liquorice, figs, plum, dark chocolate and toas

Press Review

"Sheer heaven, this is a gorgeous slice of Saville Row couture with refreshing herbal hints shot through the fabric of this svelte, perfectly tailored cassis-soaked wine.  Expressive and crisply acidic, I, for one, will be attacking this wine indecently early in its life to wallow in its pristine geometry and crystalline forest fruit freshness.  But there is no hurry.  Knowing full well how these wines can age, you can relax for a decade should you so choose."

Boekenhoutskloof

Established back in 1776 today this venerable estate is run by Marc Kent. Boekenhout is the local name for the indigenous Cape Beech tree, whose timber has been long prized by furniture makers, hence the chairs on the labels; and Kloof means a wooded ravine or valley. The estate's winery is found in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley but Marc was an early advocate for the Swartland region to the north east, so now champions both regions. Nature conservation is of great importance here with a process of removing non-native flora to the advantage endemic species. Winemaking here is largely traditional, using natural yeast but also adopting modern trends including using tulip-shaped concrete vats and amphora, before ageing in a mix of larger oak barrels to ensure the fruit is allowed to shine for some, and barriques for others, tailoring the regime to each wine.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
