Méo-Camuzet

Tiny yields, strict vineyard management and high levels of top quality oak mean that all Méo-Camuzet’s 1er cru wines are of a velvety ‘grand cru’ level of quality, if not in classification.

And what a stellar range of vineyards they have to work with: Richebourg, Vougeot, Echézeaux, Aux Boudots, Aux Brulées and Chaumes, to name but a few. Lesser wines from the estate, as well as négoce (merchant) wines under the Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs label, share much of the same magic. They have 12 ha of vines, for all intents and purposes cultivated organically as only in the worst climatic conditions do they temporarily suspend their organic ideals. There are 25 different wines – all red, bar one Hautes-Côtes white, and all from the Côte de Nuits excepting the three Cortons. Jean-Nicolas Méo therefore has a lot to juggle, though his wife Nathalie also works in the business and his two sisters are in the background. The estate has an interesting history coming down from Étienne Camuzet (1867-1946) whose daughter left it to Jean Méo (father of the present generation) whose career was in Paris, even being a member of Charles de Gaulle’s cabinet and the European Parliament. The estate is also intrinsically linked to the late Henri Jayer, who tutored Jean-Nicolas when he returned to Vosne in 1989.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
