Sons Vincent, more talkative, and Philippe, less talkative, have taken the reins at this long-time Tanners supplier from Gérard, their father, who must have now done one of the longest mayoral stints in France!
The estate was founded by Gérard’s father Henri, born in 1921; however the family has been in the village since the 17th century. Their home is in Saint-Aubin, as are most of their 15 ha of vines, although Gérard has overseen expansion into nearby Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet. The Prudhons’ aim is to ‘develop rather than manufacture’ wine through careful tending of densely planted vineyards. Some of the vines are more than 80 years old and they use minimal treatments, belonging to a sustainable viticulture group based in Dijon. Every year we taste through their whole range of Saint-Aubin wines and invariably prefer the red premier cru Les Frionnes which has a particularly good sunny south-east orientation, as well as the richness of the white En Remilly which is from the reverse slope of Chevalier-Montrachet grand cru.
Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines
Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at time of shipment. At today’s rates these are approximately £2.95 plus VAT per bottle for wines and £3.75 plus VAT for Port. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
