Santa’s Selection Dozen
If he had to conjure up a mixed case for someone, we’re pretty sure Santa would choose these twelve! There’s a top performer from Portugal alongside a rich, dark Spaniard, with Austria and Chile bringing lovely whites too. A super selection of wines, with variety being the key.
2x P & A Grenache Syrah, Vin de France, 13%
A blend of 60% Grenache (100% destemmed) with 40% whole bunch Syrah, aged in tank for ten months before bottling. The result is a wonderfully fruity, elegant wine, full of flavour.
2x Odelouca, Quinta do Francês, Algarve, Portugal, 13%
Ten months in French oak. Delightfully perfumed nose of violets and raspberry leaf. This is the winery’s number one seller - particularly popular in Algarve restaurants. Easy drinking with a long smooth finish - a real pleasure.
2x Cucao ‘Reserva Especial’ Sauvignon Blanc, Valle Central, Chile, 12.5% (v)
Fresh Sauvignon with good weight and feel. Hints of lime and tropical fruit abound, together with attractive minerality.
2x Acón Roble Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero, Spain, 14.5%
A juicy, accessible wine displaying good cherry fruit, chocolate and liquorice notes, accented with hints of spice. This spends five months in oak which is well integrated.
2x Picpoul de Pinet, Terre d’Eole, France, 12.5% (v)
A good, crisp Picpoul with a fresh and lively palate, showing citrus notes and excellent weight from lees ageing, followed by a clean finish with saline touches.
2x Domäne Baumgartner Grüner Veltliner, Trocken, Weinviertel, Austria, 13% (v)
A terrific dry white from Austria, this is full of zippy grapefruit character but with body and richness to back it up, with hints of characteristic spice and pepper on the finish. Delicious.
