Producer: Domaine Borgeot
Laurent Borgeot is a ‘catch him if you can’ character, the Scarlet Pimpernel of Remigny. Recently we ran into him and his wife Sandra on the road, double-booked and off to a meeting in Beaune; at least he had set up his brother Pascal to conduct the tasting for us! Older, quieter and less gregarious, one gets the impression that Pascal does more for the success of this useful estate than he normally gets credit for!

Domaine Borgeot is only one of only four growers in Remigny, a village at the very southern extremity of the Côte de Beaune. The estate was founded by the grandfather of the Borgeot brothers and now stands at 20 ha, stretching from Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise to Puligny-Montrachet. Minimal chemicals are used, Laurent describing the domaine as ‘bio- raisonnée’, a sort of halfway house between conventional and organic cultivation. Their Puligny is from Sandra Borgeot’s side, she has 2.5 ha of vines in her own right, the grapes going mostly into Domaine Borgeot. This producer is terribly good and we would expect, with a smart address in a grander village, the wines would be very much more expensive.
