South of France Explorer Case - Half Dozen
The South of France is a compote of warm, flavourful grapes grown in a wide variety of styles across the region. Starting in Montpellier, the Picpoul de Pinet is perfect for swigging with lashings of fresh seafood. This is a gluggable wine with refreshing, clean lines, perfect well-chilled from the ice-bucket and we’ve added a Piquepoul Rosé from the same area if you want a bit more strawberry fruit but still that mineral finish.
Onto Provence and another rosé, a real staff favourite, No 1 from Domaine Pey Blanc. Delightfully light in colour yet with class, poise and presence. That hint of redcurrant and raspberry makes it a hit with food too.
Further into the Languedoc, stretching down to the Spanish border, we’ve picked out two cracking reds for you. The first is from Corbières, ‘Essentielle’ as it says on the label and about as gorgeous, layered and textured a Southern red as you can find – break out the meats and cheeses! This is matched in quality with a rich, dark Roussillon from Clos Boudau, perfect for meaty stews and suppers, another generous, warming red.
Finally, the town of Limoux - a great Chardonnay outpost. We’ve discoverd the most delicious, oak-influenced white made by giant Dutchman, Jan Panman and his English wife, Caryl. There’s real depth of flavour here – it reminds us of Meursault in fact and has been a ‘wine of the year’ at Tanners in the past. Help yourself to this delicious case, a box-full of the South of France.
