The Tanners Extra Reserve Champagne NV Brut is such a head-turning beauty and such a great price (half what you’d pay for most Grandes Marques) that I insisted we include it. Based on Pinot Meunier, it’s fresh, creamy, biscuity and toasty, and you’d struggle to find a better-value champers. This own-label champagne from independent merchants Tanners is a star - it's fresh and fruity but has some serious complexity, with lovely notes of almond, biscuit and toast. A half bottle makes a proper treat. The best champagne and sparkling wine for Christmas 2019 I’ve been impressed by the excellent quality of own-label champagne of the year. Based in Shrewsbury, the independent family wine merchant Tanners has found an Epernay cracker. Deep golden in colour, with a satisfying toasty richness, this tastes a lot more expensive than it is. |
